Dilek Kurban

Dilek Kurban is Senior Researcher at the Department of International and European Law at the University of Amsterdam, and a research fellow at the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL).
Kurban joined the University of Amsterdam in January 2025 with her ERC Starting Grant project titled “Beyond Compliance: Rethinking the Effectiveness of Regional Human Rights Regimes,” a five-year interdisciplinary and comparative study of the effectiveness of European, inter-American and African human rights regimes in non-democratic contexts.
Iurie Patricheev
PhD Researcher
Iurie joins the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL) and the Beyond Compliance: Rethinking the Effectiveness of Regional Human Rights Regimes research project as a Ph.D. researcher. His research focuses on the historical effectiveness of regional human rights systems. More broadly, he is interested in international and regional human rights protection mechanisms, the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights, and the law of State responsibility. He previously worked at the European Court of Human Rights and the European Union Agency for Asylum.
Edward Kahuthia Murimi
Post-doctoral Researcher
Dr. Edward Kahuthia Murimi joins the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL) and the Beyond Compliance: Rethinking the Effectiveness of Regional Human Rights Regimes research project as a post-doctoral researcher. He will lead the African component of the project. Edward is interested in impact-driven research in the areas of international human rights law, the rule of law and democratization in Africa and the African Union’s human rights standards, processes, and institutions.
